“This is my first experience in drawing “comics/manga”. I didn’t have much time to think through everything as best as possible since I didn’t immediately see this contest. However, having learned the topic, I couldn’t pass by, because I myself live in the belligerent country which was insidiously attacked by the neighbor. I personally witnessed what was accompanying this process, how a huge number of people were turned into ugly monsters who were ready to easily justify any crime; how simply the people’s picture of the world was turned upside down after skillfully addressing their emotions by the media. For the first time, since the Second World War, the integrity of the established borders was violated. Now that high technologies are designed to make our lives easier, they are making us more primitive and at the same time more vulnerable than ever to such manipulations. They are constantly fighting for our minds, trying to convince us of something, but now it has become much easier to do, because we are constantly in touch, being fed with a huge amount of information every day. My work is just about that great responsibility that lies on our shoulders when we pick up gadgets because without realizing it at that moment we become participants in a large-scale war. Our frivolous attitude to information makes us accomplices in massacres and harassment, both far from us and, sometimes, in our own home. The truth is that even the ability to work with information, the knowledge of how propaganda (PR) works, what cognitive distortions, logical errors, and the ability to see complex connections are, unfortunately, cannot save us from such a sad outcome, because life in the world is not a given, as we are accustomed to mistakenly accept it, but a tremendous work! Apparently, we, humanity, are not yet ready to fully realize this.” |
